Eurotrip: Munich
We went to Munich to visit Aussie mates Rachael and Nick, and Rachael greeted us at the station with OJ in cute little mugs!!
We caught the end of the Royal Wedding while snacking on Rachael's homemade scones, and bubbles instead of tea :p
We met up with Steve's highschool friend, Naomi, checked out the Fruhlingsfest, and drank a litre of beer each.
Then headed to the Hofbrauhaus and drank more litres of beer and sampled some deliciously heavy traditional German food.
The next day we headed off on our 'bike + walking tour' with our tour guides, Rachel and Nick (who have a fleet of bikes- check out my assigned bike.... aka the 'sick BMX'...)
After all of our sightseeing we decided it was time for a picnic in the Englischer Garten. We timed sandwich making between sunshowers, sampled the local brew and made daisy chains.
We also found some fields to frolic in, but I failed at jumping :)
The next day we went to Dachau, Germany's first concentration camp which has been turned into a memorial site and museum. It was obviously very surreal, eerie and sad.
We went down to the crematoriums which was horrible, when standing in front of the brick furnaces I heard a little girl about 7 years old ask her Mum, "Is that like in Hansel and Gretel, Mom?" Where the Mum just went, "No."
We left Munich late that night, on the night train to Budapest (photos of that here!) We loved Munich, possibly because we had such awesome hosts, I mean check out this itinerary!! Two pages of planned fun, and there was also homecooked pumpkin and ricotta lasagne. A-mazing. Who would've thought it was possible for some NZer's to miss some Australians, but we do! :p
I'll leave you with this blurry and slightly disturbing image of me and Steve in full Bavarian regalia...
In the next few days I'll share some bits from the next part of our trip- Vienna! :)
