Eurotrip: Prague
We arrived in Prague cranky (maybe just me...) and gasping for air after the air con failed in the train carriages. But all was ok when we met our awesome host, Andy from Australia, who we hooked up with via vacation rental website airbnb. Andy took us to his (sweet) place to drop off our gear and then offered to take us around the city! We walked through gardens, cobbled, narrow streets, and if you blanked out the tourist groups, you could imagine horses and carts and olden day figures in the open squares surrounded by pretty old buildings. We went over the old bridge notorious for pick-pockets and dotted with caricature artists, but with fantastic views of the river and paddle boats.
Up the hill (Prague is quite hilly) we went to the castle, past the 'Peoples Orchard' which used to be a private royal orchard but is now open to the public to have picnics in and help themselves to the fruit- how cool is that!?
The second day we took a picnic and some local beers and (pear cider!) down to the river for a paddle boat trip! We couldn't get a swan shaped boat unfortunately, but it was so nice drifting on the river and making friends with real swans (one tried to chew on Steve's hoody :)
Andy kindly heated up his jacuzzi (high-rollers! :p) for us so we all soaked our travel-weary-cobblestone-beaten selves then went out for an amazing mexican meal. It was so great having Andy around to recommend sights to see and places to eat, he's a really great guy and we hope to keep in touch. Steve was stoked to find Andy's an even bigger web-geek than he is, and they chatted away about web things while Amy and I tried to keep up. (We couldn't.)
A big bus took us back to Germany the next day, the entire trip was amazing but it was nice to be home to my own bed, shower, kitchen, you know how it is :)
So that's the last 'installment' of our little Eurotrip! We do have more travel coming up, that's what living in Europe's for, right? If anyone is planning on going to any of the places we've visited (you can see them on the map right down the bottom here) and want some tips feel free to email me! I'd love to hear from you!
